An appeal is being launched by Shine together to raise £10,000 in just 10 hours on the 10th of October 2010!

The 10.10.10 appeal will raise funds for the charity at Southmead and Frenchay hospitals. The money raised will go directly to helping patients at the hospitals and providing new specialised equipment.

The support we give to local people through our charity really makes a difference in every ward. It may just be a simple donation to a ward or unit for a piece of equipment, but it directly impacts on the patients we care for.

We are calling on people across people across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset to get behind the appeal on the 10th of October and raise funds towards the total of £10,000. To raise £10,000 in just one day is a real challenge and we hope that local companies, schools and community groups will come on board and show their support for Southmead and Frenchay hospitals.

Top ten ways you can support the 10.10.10 appeal!

1. Ten minute challenge! Stage a ten minute fundraising challenge! How many doughnuts can you eat in ten minutes? Can you put up a tent in ten minutes? How many apples can you bob in ten minutes? You get the idea!

2. Cake stall – enjoy baking then sell cakes and buns at work, school etc. Rice crispy cakes are always popular!

3. Match box filling - ask people at school or work to fill a match box or Smarties tube with money.

4. Disco divas – organise a fundraising Disco Dress Down day – everyone pays £1 to wear their best disco outfit in the run up to the 10th of October.

5. Quiz - organising a quiz is a fun way of raising money and socialising with friends.

6. Sponsored….well anything really! Cycle, walk, swim – perhaps even sponsored “give up chocolate” event!

7. Karaoke competition – Who has the x-factor? Find out by holding a karaoke competition. You could even ask some friends to dress up as the X-factor judges.

8. Fancy Dress - Get sponsored to go to work in fancy dress or how about a fancy dress car wash?

9. Lift share week - encourage your company to lift share for a week, aim to get all cars that go to work full of people. Not only will you reduce Co2 but you might even make some new friends. Everyone who wants to take part could donate £2.

10. You’ve Been Framed - organise a photo competition with a difference! Ask your colleagues at work to bring in photos of themselves as children, then everyone has to guess who’s who (for a donation of course!)
