Families across Bristol are being urged to sign up for this year’s prostate cancer run on Durdham Downs to raise money for vital research into the disease.
The annual Run for the Future will be held on Sunday September 18 2011.
Celebrity supporter Carol Vorderman has launched the countdown to this year’s event, which raises funds for research into prostate cancer at The Bristol Urological Institute at Southmead Hospital.
Carol is asking families to sign up for the event, which is organised by Rotary in Bristol, to help support local prostate cancer services and research into treatment and causes of the disease.
The 5th Run for the Future in 2010 was a great success with over 750 people taking part by running, walking or jogging the 5k course. Over the five years the event has taken place nearly £200,000 has been raised for prostate cancer research in Bristol.
Carol said: “We know of so many people whose lives have been touched by prostate cancer. This is a fantastic event for all the family. At five kilometres it’s something we can all tackle, and there’s no pressure to be competitive! We encourage people to run, jog or walk. The wonderful thing about this event is that all the money raised goes to the Bristol Urological Institute at Southmead hospital, which means that the funds really are supporting local people with this disease."
“Families are at the heart of the Run for the Future. This is an event that Bristol can be truly proud of. Please join us on September 18 and help us do even more to care for local prostate cancer patients.”
Run for the Future was established in 2005 by Rotary in Bristol to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Appeal at the Bristol Urological Institute.
The event has raised awareness about Prostate Cancer, and the availability of a simple test to aid prostate cancer diagnosis. Small family teams of three can register for the event for just £35, and families of up to five for just £45. Individuals can register for £15. We hope that participants will try to raise a suggested £100 sponsorship.
